IThe 34-year old Fashion Designer from New York, Ajay Srivastava says in a very polite voice, “Hand stitching clothes for my sisters, their dolls, giving them tips on what to wear, these were my first leanings towards designing." I called him up with a vague idea of his professional scene there. And, gradually, when he came out of his reserved shell, the words started revealing his superb achievements. This young creative brain stands among those few who have been successfully able to make their place in the most cut throat continent. A designer whose clients include names like Britney spears who purchased stuff from his store, Paris Hilton whose launching collection was designed by him, Siena Miler’s collections dealt by ajay, has brilliantly travelled a long way.
A designer who has been in the news of international fashion journals and magazines, Lets peek-a-boo into his design voyage truly in his own words, “I always wanted to be a fashion designer. Creating my own fashion brand was a long-term dream. I began my career with freelance assignments within India, and then joined Arbi Exports as a merchandiser. I wanted to learn the merchandising because being a designer does not mean only sketching, shopping for fabrics, reading or watching fashion TV. My big break was my appointment as the Design Director at Creative Garments, Mumbai. The job involved designing and manufacturing collections for the European markets and travelling widely across all fashion capitals! These travels taught me about various markets, opened up my eyes and sensibilities to the varied worlds of style and design.More...
